We finally found some booties for Kali that fit! She’s never worn booties before so she’s still adjusting but this is the 3rd kind that we’ve bought & these are the only ones that she’s comfortable with .. They’re “muttluks” & we bought them from petsmart .. We originally bought the ruff wear kind from REI, they were pretty pricey too :/ but kali just didn’t like them at all & it looked like they were pretty uncomfortable ..& their sizing was just way off .. it said that for the width of Kali’s paw which was 2.5″ that she’d be a size XS … but one look at that size & I thought .. there’s no way Kali would fit those .. so we got a medium and a large but they still didn’t work.
I was actually really nervous on what we were going to do because our whole house has hardwood floors with little carpet areas… So I’m really thankful that we found ones that work with her! She’s been walking around the house already today 🙂 A bit wobbly sometimes and it looks like she’s stepping down a lot harder on her rear leg but i think she’s just getting used to them. But she seemed happier today since she got to walk around with us!
It will probably take some getting used to, but I must say that Kali looks pretty stylin’ in her new boots. I’m sure if it helps her get more walks, she will be just fine with the booties!
I’m just getting caught up on your blog – sorry!
Oh, how sweet. Kali gets to do that special boot walk too. We have the same brand of booties for our two Golden Retrievers, Catie (she’s the tripawd) and Riley (he’s a lowly quadpawd 🙂 ). Catie’s been through so much with the amputation and chemo that a tiny thing like putting booties on doesn’t even phase her. That’s just small stuff to her. Riley, however, is a big baby about it all. He makes a big production with the strange boot walk and actually looks like he’s stepping on his toes. LOL!
We too have hardwood on our main floor and lower family room area. Although we don’t put the booties on Catie in the house (we save them for brutally cold temperatures – which is often – and tons of snow – which is ridiculous this year), we did invest in an array of rubber backed scatter rugs which even now are still strewn about.
Glad Kali is recovering so well! What a trooper!! Look forward to reading more updates.
Pretty stylin’ there Kali! Check the Gear blog for other recommended traction solutions for protecting Tripawds on slippery floors.
Thanks guys!
Since we only have carpet in some areas of our house I was so worried that she’d only be able to stay on those areas but since she’s been getting used to her shoes, she seems so happy when we she gets to walk around anywhere in the house! We haven’t tried the stairs yet though.. I’m still waiting for her to heal to get her the ruff wear harness.
We keep ’em on her all the time because i get nervous thinking about it if she’ll wake up in the middle of the night & try to walk around & slip :/ & she keeps ’em on when she goes outside & since we’re from Anchorage, Alaska it protects her from the super cold weather here 🙂
I’ve definitely been looking around the websites store .. I’m so glad this website was created! 🙂
Hey I’m from Calgary so I know ALL about cold weather!! Glad to hear that Kali is on the mend. I was just catching up on your blog and it sounds like you’ve had a rather rough go recently. Yep those Vet bills sure do add up fast. I used to joke that I single-handedly put Tai’s vet’s kids through college AND bought their first house. Wouldn’t have changed a thing though. Keep up the great work Kali, you’re a star.
Thanku! I know, I wish we were able to add these guys to our own health plans since they’re part of our family! 😀
